Description

Arkema is one of the world's biggest producers of hydrazine hydrate. Hydrazine hydrate is a powerful reducing agent and is marketed in various concentrations (aqueous solutions from 24% to 100%)

  • 24% to 55% solutions are used mainly for Water and effluent treatment
  • 60% to 100% solutions are used for synthesis and manufacturing of derivatives

Properties

  • Colorless liquid
  • 100% soluble in water
  • Strong alkaline reducer
  • Stable and easy to handle

Arkema‘s hydrazine hydrate boasts an exceptional degree of purity:

  • Extremely low chloride content
  • Low total organic carbon content
  • Few mineral residues and metallic impurities

Markets and applications

Because of its interesting physico-chemical properties, hydrazine hydrate has been developed in numerous applications.

Treatment processes:

  • Water treatment: Hydrazine hydrate is an oxygen scavenger for water used in industrial boilers and high pressure steam generators (thermal and nuclear power plants). In this field, Liozan® is an activated form that provides faster oxygen scavenging and offers the possibility of working at lower temperature
  • Refining of precious metals
  • Recovery of metals from pickling and surface treatment solutions
  • Purification of sulfuric acid for grades used on the electronics market
  • Metallization of plastics and metals (nickel, cobalt, iron, chromium etc.)
  • Effluents treatment (liquid and gas streams)

Synthesis applications

HHz is used as a reagent for the production of:

  • Blowing agents: azodicarbonamide
  • Bio-active intermediates for agrochemical and pharmaceutical products, via Triazoles and other hydrazine derivatives (salts)
  • Polymerization initiators (azo initiators)
  • Various products: certain organic pigments for dyes, reagents for photography, urethanes and acrylics, hydrobromic acid etc.
