Description
BlocBuilder® Technology refers to Arkema’s nitroxide-based controlled radical polymerization technology, useful in developing polymers with novel tailored performance properties.
For example, the technology can be used to produce acrylic block copolymers for a wide range of applications.
BlocBuilder® is the tradename for a remarkable new alkoxyamine compound that combines an initiator and polymerization control agent in one molecule. FlexiBlocTM is the tradename for a developmental product line of reactive macroinitiators, for use by polymer producers or compounders.
Benefits
Controlled free radical polymerizations :
-
Reduced polydispersity (tighter molecular weight distribution)
-
Controlled copolymer sequencing, allowing manufacture of block, gradient, and star copolymers
-
Compatibility with existing reactor equipment to minimize capital investment
-
No need to remove residual metallic or sulphuric compounds which can be problematic with other approaches
End Product :
-
Controlled nanostructure
-
Customized polymer properties including improved toughness, compatibility, surface properties, adhesion, rheology, and aesthetics
