Automotive and industrial applications

 

With their highly reputed features, Arkema's polyamide products have been utilized in a wide variety of automotive applications. In particular, PA11 and PA12 have long been used as critical safety parts, and are highly evaluated as reliable materials by auto manufacturers both in Japan and worldwide. Other products, such as PA610, PA612 and PA1010, have also been recently adopted for use in connectors and tubing, and flexible aromatic polyamides are used in cooling system tubing and blow-by tubes.

Rilsan®

Rilsan® (polyamide 11, PA11) is a long-chain polyamide that is particularly superior to other types of polyamides with respect to its chemical resistance, low-temperature impact resistance, and heat resistance. With the various finely tuned aspects of its physical properties, including viscosity, flexibility, and shock resistance, Rilsan® has an extensive product portfolio that fits a wide range of applications. Rilsan® can be processed by many types of molding methods, including extrusion, injection, and blow molding. It has demonstrated outstanding performance and track records in the automotive and general industrial fields. In particular, examples of its long history of success in the automotive industry include its use in plastic fuel tubing and water-cooling tubing, among other applications. Rilsan® is also used in sports shoes, capitalizing on the light weight and toughness of PA11. Being a 100% plant-based material sourced from a non-edible plant (castor-oil plant), Rilsan® is also eco-friendly.

Rilsamid®

Rilsamid® (polyamide 12, PA12) is a long-chain polyamide featuring low water absorption and a low specific gravity. By fine-tuning various aspects of its physical properties, such as viscosity, flexibility, and shock resistance, Rilsamid® offers an extensive product portfolio that fits a wide range of applications. Rilsamid® can be processed by many types of molding methods, including extrusion, injection, and blow molding. It has an outstanding performance and track record in the automotive industry, and it is typically used in plastic fuel tubing and quick connectors, among other applications. In addition, taking advantage of the light weight of PA12, Rilsamid® is also used in sports shoes.

Rilsan HT®

Rilsan HT® (aromatic polyamide, PPA) features a combination of PPA's heat resistance and the flexibility of a long-chain PA. While PPA is generally recognized as a high-rigidity material, Rilsan HT® is an innovative, flexible, and unique thermal-resistant PPA in comparison to other general PPAs. With these distinctions, Rilsan HT® is highly valued and has been widely adopted as an alternative to metal materials, especially in applications that require flexibility and heat resistance, such as plastic tubing in auto-engine rooms. Examples of its typical applications include blow-by tubes and automobile water-cooling tubing. Another feature of Rilsan HT® is its lower water absorption than general PPAs. Sourced from a non-edible plant (castor-oil plant) as its starting material, Rilsan HT® is also eco-friendly.

Rilsan T®

Rilsan T® (polyamide 1010, PA1010) is a long-chain polyamide with a performance comparable to PA12. With its heat resistance, low extraction, and performance in plastic tubing, this material excels even in comparison to PA12. While the conventional extrusion molding of PA1010 has not necessarily been easy, Rilsan T® offers good extrudability, reflecting Arkema's long years of experience and expertise in extrusion molding. Currently, Rilsan T® is used in automobile tubing. Being a 100% plant-based material sourced from a non-edible plant (castor-oil plant), Rilsan T® is also eco-friendly.

Orgalloy®

Orgalloy® is a special alloy of polyamide and polyolefin developed with Arkema's compound technology. Although polyamide and polyolefin are not usually compatible, Orgalloy® achieves good compatibility through the support of Arkema's special compound technology. Being an alloy, Orgalloy® represents a significant improvement over the shortcomings of polyamide 6 and polyamide 66, with respect to their changeable physical properties due to water absorption and their weak chemical resistance against polar solvents. With its extensive product portfolio that fits various types of molding methods, including extrusion, injection, and blow molding, Orgalloy® is typically used in the tubing of automotive air conditioners, air intake ducts, and other applications.
